An Act for Alternative Energy

Purposes

The purposes of this Act are:
· to establish a program that will reduce the Great Petronia’s greenhouse gas emissions substantially enough between 2010 and 2050 to avert the catastrophic impacts of global climate change; and

· To accomplish that purpose while preserving robust growth in the Great Petronia economy and avoiding the imposition of hardship on Great Petronia’s citizens.

Section 1: Study and report on existing natural energy resources including wind, solar, waves and tides.
Definition. In order to get the most benefit of the alternative energy, we encourage the studies and reports. Therefore, we are willing to give financial support to universities and technology centers which study the advantages and disadvantages of alternative energy.

Section 2: Make geothermal energy more competitive with fossil fuels in generating electricity.

Definition. From an environmental standpoint, emissions of undesirable substances are small. It is also nearly sustainable because the heat extraction is small compared to the size of the heat reservoir. The Alternative energy Act authorizes $90 million annually for a five-year period from 2008 to 2012 to encourage the commercial use and development of geothermal energy.

Section 3: Authorize subsidies for wind, solar energy, and other alternative energy producers.

Definition. There are billions of dollars that the oil companies get in tax breaks over years and this act would roll it back and invest these taxpayer dollars to

improve the renewable energy and put it in energy efficiency.

Section 4: Encourage the use of biomass and biofuels.

Definition. Biofuels are a renewable energy source derived from organic matter such as agricultural crops and residues, forestry residues and forestry products, and by-products from some agricultural and industrial processes in some waste streams. Biofuels will help to reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels by diversifying the transport fuel mix, some of which will be produced from local resources. That will increase the resilience of our transport system and economy to sudden disruptions in oil supply, as well as address longer-term concerns about the security of global oil supplies and about price uncertainty. Biofuels can also reduce harmful vehicle emissions such as those of carbon monoxide and particulates, creating positive impacts for air quality and human health.

Ecological Trade Bill

As climate change is a priority of every government in the world, action should be undertaken by reducing green house gases, which are the main reasons for this problem. We believe that this goal can be reached by establishing an ecological trade. This type of trade consists of:

Section 1: transportation

Transport is one of the biggest pollutants. To reduce the amount of CO2 emissions, certain restrictions should be put upon transportation.

Local products should be promoted in order to shorten distances, which will decrease the consumption of oil.

The use of storage should be optimized in order to limit the amount of waste.

Corporations should always choose the most ecological and safest way to transport their goods in order to decrease the use of fuel as much as possible.

<!–[if !supportLists]–>d) <!–[endif]–>Corporations must use the less polluting fuel for transport.

Section 2: Packing

To reduce the use of plastic and other polluting materials:

<!–[if !supportLists]–>a) <!–[endif]–>We promote the use of recycled and other environmental friendly materials that can be recycled after use.

<!–[if !supportLists]–>b) <!–[endif]–>Packages must be optimized to the minimum.

Section 2: Agricultural populace must limit the use of pesticides in order to save vegetation.

Nicole

Our presidential candidate for parliament, Nicole Vournazos.

Nicole and Nasser

Nicole discussing issues with Nasser, the presidential candidate from MEAP.

As a member of ACP I want to express my opinion on the upcoming elections for the parliament leader. I think Nicole is the best candidate and has proved to be so through several speeches she has given, these include several to our group and also at our press conference. She has also shown great leadership as ACP’s party leader. I want to thank everyone for sharing this experience with me. I have learned how to organize my thoughts, analyze information, and make decisions with the knowledge i have received during my time in the BFTF program. I have met many amazing and unique people and I am thankful for this experience. My last statement is that I hope everyone sees that Nicole is the best woman for the job. Thanks!!
